Domesday to Today
Hamper Mill on the River Colne near Rickmansworth is one of those rare British places which has evolved over many centuries, adapting with each succeeding generation. What makes this mill particularly special amongst the majority of paper mills is that the structure of the mill has remained intact, as a living community, instead of being demolished to form a brownfield site for new housing as others have done.
The research in this work has taken more than a decade and there are still unanswered questions. However, the time has come to publish this narrative, originally published in The Quarterly of the British Association of Paper Historians, for a broader circulation.
