Summer Storyboats 2022

SOLD OUT. Next – Halloween Storyboats.  They’re back! The ever popular Storyboats will be running on Wednesdays, throughout the August school holidays. Aimed at primary age children, this is a gentle way to fill an hour aboard our Bryan Donkin boat. The Visitor Centre has been demolished, so the smoky remains have gone and all that is left is the space where it once stood.

The trip lasts approximately 40 minutes from our mooring by the Fourdrinier Way entrance. The Bryan Donkin journeys down the River Gade to where it joins the canal, lingers a little, then returns. Along the way a storyteller will keep the group entertained with seasonal tales, wildlife spotting and feeding any birdlife we encounter. Regular sightings include: swans, ducks, geese, moorhens, heron and if you are very lucky, the kingfisher or egret.

The boat has coverings in case of inclement weather. We customise the interior with large beanbags for the storybook audience and a few chairs for the accompanying responsible adults. All children must be accompanied. We favour young passengers, with a single parent or carer so that our audience is mostly storybook appreciative.  All passengers must have a ticket for insurance purposes.  Our boat is limited to 12 passengers plus crew, so even babes-in-arms count. We only use fully qualified skippers and are licensed to take passengers.

Booking is essential, though if you have last minute wish to join us on the day, you are welcome to call.  Sometimes we do get the odd last minute cancellation but they are few and far between. We request that you park in Durrant’s Hill Road car park unless you are a blue badge holder. We have limited parking at the entrance. Please arrive 10 minutes before departure time.
