Frogmore Paper Mill is reopening! We are delighted to say we are open for hard hat tours after more than 3 years of closure.
We will be open for tours at 11am and 2pm every Wednesday and Thursday. Adults £15 and children 4-16 £10, children under 4 free. Entry will be via our gate on Durrant’s Hill Road – please don’t head to Fourdrinier Way.
Why are they called Hard Hat tours?
Really because we have more to do. Hard Hat tours offer a full tour experience where a guide will tell you all about papermaking history, the Gade Valley paper mills and the restoration work that has been undertaken since the 2022 fire which forced us to close. We will be pleased to offer you a cup of tea or coffee and a cake as part of the ticket price. You will also receive a demonstration of making paper by hand. On our child friendly Wednesdays in school holidays we will make time for all children to make a sheet to take home.
What we won’t have!
Level floors and a lack of steps! There is one narrow flight of five steps between the levels. If this may pose a problem, get in touch and we will see what we can do to escort you a different route.
We do not have a full café yet but can serve a fine coffee or tea. And cake!
What we will give you!
An informative and engaging tour. A tour guide who will answer your questions and amaze you with the facts. A chance to make a piece of paper. An understanding of how paper is made, how paper developed from early production, to mechanisation and towards the future. You will learn how the Gade Valley or Paper Valley as we prefer to call it, gave the world a revolutionary product that we now just take for granted.
Entrance Durrants Hill Road Gate opposite the car park.
Wear warm clothing and practical footwear.
School Holidays
On Wednesdays during the school holidays, we offer child friendly tours. Everyone is welcome to book but we will be making sure our younger audience members are being engaged. Each child will be able to make their own small pieces of paper on these tours.
