Storyboats at Frogmore Paper Mill
Our Storyboats are a 40 minute, gentle journey for ages 4 to 8 years, along the River Gade listening to stories. We also watch out for our wonderful local wildlife and feed those waterbirds we can. Of course we cannot guarantee the wildlife turns up on cue, but if we are lucky we will see the kingfisher! We read picture story books to our young audience. We have beanbags to sit on for any who wish to and some chairs at the back for those who don’t.
There are 3 small steps in and out of the boat and a handrail alongside. Staff are always available to help. We use only trained skippers and deliver a safety talk at the start of each trip. Children’s life jackets are available on board and accompanying adults remain responsible for the children they bring. A toilet is available on board and one at the Frogmore site.
Tickets sell fast. All passengers must purchase a ticket, all children must be accompanied. Each boat takes 12 passengers plus crew.
Please arrive 5 minutes prior to departure. Boats depart from our wharf near the entrance in Fourdrinier Way.
Access requirements
There are 3 small steps and a handrail down into and out of the boat. Staff are on hand to assist. We have limited parking on site for Blue Badge holders, so we request all passengers who are able, to park in Durrants Hill Road car park. If you have any questions, please get in touch.
Frequently asked questions
Is there parking?
Yes! There is parking at Durrant’s Hill Road pay and display car park. The car park is a five minute walk away. Cross the road, turn to your right and take the first left which is Fourdrinier Way. If you are a blue badge holder, call us and we can arrange a space at our entrance.
What stories will be read?
We read a mixture of illustrated story books most suitable for a younger audience, aged 4 to 8 years. We theme the stories to wildlife or the season.
Will we do anything else?
The Gade rRiver is a rare chalk stream which in season is alive with water birds, fish and insects. If we are very lucky, we will see our regular kingfisher. We pause where we can to feed the water birds with proper wildfowl food.
