Join us for an evening of pub history and pub grub! Guest speaker Roy Wood, will be joining us to deliver his illustrated presentation, titled, ‘An Alternative Pub Crawl’. Roy, Vice President and Honorary Secretary of the Hemel Hempstead Local History and Museum Society, will fascinate the audience with his insights into the many pubs that used to be scattered across Hemel Hempstead, but which are now gone. Amazing photographs will be shown to illustrate the talk.
Why are pubs relevant to Frogmore Paper Mill? Quite apart from the fact it is local history, the pubs sprang up in direct response to the growth of the paper mills and their many workers. Some mill workers were paid partly in beer and with no readily available tap water, the pubs were the place to go after a hard day. There was even a pub called The Papermakers Arms.
