Our bookbinding course takes students through the basic skills of traditional and non-traditional bookbinding. Sessions are held in our very well equipped bookbindery. There are opportunities to use a range of materials and processes, including use of the Ludlow and hot foil press for embossed titles. This course is for beginners and those with some previous experience. The group is led by a professional bookbinder, Doug Mitchell who having undertaken an apprenticeship at the very appropriate John Dickinson and Company, Apsley Mill, went on to work at The British Museum, The Foreign Office Press and The British Library. Doug teaches all aspects of bookbinding and paper conservation. Participants can explore basic binding techniques, then undertake their own creative or restoration projects under guidance. Sessions can be booked by single half or whole day sessions, or full year half or whole days. See details above.
